BACKGROUND TO PARISH PLAN

The Parish Plan Steering Committee, comprising local volunteers, was set up at a public meeting held in May 2004. It was charged by the Parish Council with the preparation of a plan which would highlight existing problems and give a vision of how the community saw itself developing. The plan should also suggest how existing problems hindering this development might be overcome.

Major funding was obtained from Awards for All, the Lottery funder. Two open days were held in the summer of 2005 and in November a questionnaire was distributed throughout the parish.

A website was set up to facilitate the collation of the results of this questionnaire.

Analysis of this information enabled a consensus of the views of the residents to be identified and any action which was needed to be established.

Action points were produced and prioritised as short-, medium- and long-term.

SUMMARY OF RETURNS

There were 539 returns of the questionnaire which gave data on 1002 people aged 11 years old and more. An analysis of the returns by age compared with the data from the 2001 census + 5 years shows that the representation was reasonable except for an excess of people aged 65-74. In the questionnaire the parish was divided into five areas to identify the location of specific problems. A comparison of returns from each area with the numbers of houses in each area showed reasonable representation. The full summary of the analysis can be obtained from the Parish Office.
